Optimization of a fermentation medium using neural networks and genetic algorithms

Fermentation reaction producing hydantoinase. Four reagent concentrations can vary: molasses, NH4NO3, NaH2PO4 and MnCl2. Data from 27 experiments was used to train a 4-6-1 neural network, and data from 3 other experiments was used to validate it. A genetic algorithm was used to screen the predictions of the network for optimal fermentation. It converged after 200–500 generations.
